A young African Lady named Thandeka Ngcobo who got pregnant at the age of 17 has fought hard to achieve her dream of becoming a Medical Doctor despite her circumstances.
Thandeka, a South African became pregnant at the age of 17 when she was in her first year in the university but instead of being defeated by a teenage pregnancy, she worked very hard to become a remarkable Medical Doctor.Â
She grew up in a disadvantaged background, a rural area with her seven siblings were raised by a single mother. She mentioned that she would walk many miles to her Primary School where she began her educational journey.
Against all odds, she completed her high school l as one of the top 10 matriculants in her region and she immediately got accepted at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

Thandeka said being a teenage mother was very emotionally and mentally draining for her as she was in her first year in university when she gave birth birth. She mentioned that she had to leave her daughter at home at jut two weeks old.
She mentioned that she only saw her child during school holidays and when her child was ill, she could not always go home but still worried about them.
Despite needing to focus on her studies, Thandela said she always remembered that she was a mother and could not ignore her instincts to care for their child. She worked hard and defied all odds to become a renowned doctor in South Africa.

She registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Thandeka said she register because she believes that proper primary health care services are a vital tool to fight the burden of diseases and illnesses in the health sector.
Thandeka attributes her success to her mother for being supportive of her even when she got pregnant. She said her mother did not just raise the children she carried in her womb, she was a mother to many other children in their community.
She said her mother taught her that no man is an island, and the importance of helping another person without expecting anything in return. She added that she taught them to always be considerate of others and to always lend a helping hand and show kindness and love
