Young Lady wins £10,000 award to study in UK after earning an outstanding 99% grade in a Saudi university

A brilliant lady named Layan Hawsawi has won a scholarship worth 10,000 pounds at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom after graduating from King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia with an outstanding 99% grade.

Layan scored a 4.93 over a possible 5.00 cumulative grade point for her foundation degree at the King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia which earned her the University of Sheffield, England Undergraduate Scholarship to study for her bachelor’s degree. 

The scholarships are competitive awards worth £10,000 towards the tuition fee for an undergraduate degree program. According to the university’s website, you must hold an offer to study at the University of Sheffield before you apply.

Layan stated on her Linkedin that she chose Genetics because she is passionate about the growing genetics world! From disease, to diagnosis to treatment, she said she is interested in clinical diagnoses of disease and prenatal genetics.

She mentioned that her love for the course is why she is considering a career in genetic counseling which will allow her to use her knowledge and skills to offer appropriate help to patients for a better life.

Layan said with prenatal genetics she has been doing her research on newborn screening that helps detect disease in unborn children. She added that she is interested in the molecular basis of genetic diseases, advanced treatments available, and the potential ones, particularly in cancer.

Aside from her academic skills, Laya said she always likes to spend time at social events to meet new people, communicate, and expand my network. She is the Faculty Champion and Student Ambassador at the University of Sheffield.

Layan said being part of a committee, and societies and having leadership roles in the university has given her the chance to expand her network.

She added that some of the entertaining activities she does in her free time are playing chess with the chess society members at university, going pottery painting, or having food socials with societies.
