A brilliant lady named Onyinye Favour Chibueze has bagged her bachelor’s degree with a first-class honors and won four different awards as best graduating student at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
Onyinye obtained her bachelors degree in Linguistics and Igbo Laguage with a first class honors of 4.81 over a possible 5.00 cumulative grade point at the University of Lagos,Nigeria.
She took to Likedin to celebrate her achievement of bagging the degree and winning different awards as the best graduating student. Onyinye was the best graduating student of the University of Lagos’s Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies.
”Last week, I graduated as the best student with a First Class degree (with a CGPA of 4.81/5.0) from the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies at the University of Lagos, Nigeria,” she said.

Onyinye stated that she received multiple awards in recognition of her excellent academic achievements. She won the Head of Department Prize for the best all-round performance in Linguistics and Igbo Language.
She also won the late Samuel Alabi Seriki Prize for the Best Graduating Student of the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies and, the Prof. Chigozie Bright Nnabuihe Prize for students graduating with a first class from the Department.
Onyiye was also awarded the Ozomma Umunna Prize for the Best Graduating student in Linguistics Igbo. She was the second-best graduating student from the university’s Faculty of Arts.
While a student, Onyinye authored and published an academic research paper on Igbo slang, a facet of sociolinguistics, both in print and online, and completed 76 courses with 62 As, 3 Cs, and 11 Bs.
She stated that she served as the General Secretary of the Linguistics and Language Students Association of her department. Onyinye said she was actively involved in various volunteer activities, both locally and internationally.
She organized the first edition of the Igbo Wikimedia Edit-A-Thon at the University of Lagos. Onyinye thanked everyone who contributed to her academic journey in one way or the other.
Onyinye said she is presently contributing significantly to the promotion of the Igbo language through personal YouTube channels and other social media platforms. She added that she is demonstrating expertise as a seasoned Linguistics and Igbo teacher, translator, annotator, and transcriber.
