Young Nigerian mother bags masters degree at US university, celebrates success

A young Nigerian mother named Sandra Onah has bagged a master’s degree at Itacha University, New York in the United States.

Sandra obtained a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance at New York’s Itacha University in the University. She shared that achievement on her Linkedin stating that she earned the degree while balancing motherhood, work, and different challenges.

She described the degree as a milestone that is more than just a degree for her but a testament to perseverance, resilience, and the unwavering support of her loved ones. Sandra said balancing the demands of graduate studies with her other stuff was not easy.

She said as an international student, she navigated the challenges of adapting to a new culture, mastering a different academic system, and overcoming language barriers. Sandra said every day was a learning experience, both inside and outside the classroom.

Sandra stated that being a wife, she had to balance her academic commitment with nurturing her relationship. She credited her husband for standing by her through late-night study sessions, research deadlines, and moments of self-doubt, all while also pursuing his graduate school studies too.

She added that the most challenging and rewarding role was being a mother. Sandra said juggling motherhood and graduate school was a situation that required careful consideration.

She said she initially did not have childcare until she could afford part time childcare to take care of her daughter. Sandra said she learned the true meaning of multitasking however her daughter’s smiles and belief in her fueled her determination to keep pushing forward.

Sandra recalled her professor telling her that her daughter,  Kamsi was watching and
learning from her, which encouraged her to push on despite the guilt of always dropping her off to friends and not being able to pick her up before bedtime.

She also mentioned that she had to deal with grief after she lost her father. Sandra said navigating the grief of being recently orphaned while striving to achieve her academic goals was tough.

However, her father’s memory inspired her to keep going, reminding her of the importance of resilience and strength. Sandra described her achievement is a collective victory, and expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, and mentors for their endless encouragement and understanding.

She thanked them for believing in her even when she doubted herself. Advising all wives, mothers, and international students, Sandra said her achievement is proof that no dream is too big and no obstacle too great.

Sandra urges them to embrace their journey, cherish the support system around them, and remember that their hard work will pay off. She said she is excited and ready to embark on a future filled with possibilities
