A young African American girl named Taykeetria Rogers has made history as the first-ever black salutatorian of Junction City High School, Arkansas in the United States.
Taykeetria Rogers, from Louisiana, graduated from Junction City High School as the second-best graduating student in her class. She made history as the first black salutatorian of the institution since its inception.
Rogers made history alongside her childhood friend who was also the valedictorian as the two Black female students to earn top-class positions in the school district’s history.
“It’s a great thing to me,” It doesn’t seem like we should be graduating but it’s something that we’ve managed to accomplish,” she said. Aside from being an exceptional student, Rogers was an athlete and was active in other extracurricular activities.

Rogers was a cheerleader, and basketballer, and also juggled being a teacher member of various school clubs. She was named all-conference and player of the year in basketball and was named to the all-state cheer team two times in a row.
She stated that earning the feat did not come easy as she had to overcome mental and physical challenges, including two consecutive anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, to become a resilient athlete.
Rogers stated that she never thought she would the first Black female to make history at her school but she is b glad to be showing other students that they too can succeed, despite life’s obstacles.
Advising other students, Roger encouraged them to take their tasks one day at a time. Rogers will be studying for her bachelors degree at Louisiana Tech Univerity, Ruston in the United States.
In a similar story, a young African American girl named A’myri Phillips has made history as the first-ever black salutatorian of Dekaney High School in the United States.
A’myri Phillips, a Texas teen graduated from Dekaney High School as the second-best graduating student in her class. She was awarded the first black salutatorian of the high school and is also the first in her family.
Giving a speech at the graduation ceremony, Phillips said she was nothing but proud to not only make history but also to be the first in her family to attend college.
“I stand before you as a proud African-American woman who will be the first in my family to go to college, who has overcome many obstacles to be standing here today,” Phillips said.
Aside from her excellent performance in academics, Phillips is an active member of the Dekaney High School Volleyball team, she recently made the first place in the academic all-district volleyball competition. Read more about Phillips HERE.
