A young girl named Kyanna Woods who was born with two holes in her heart has overcome her health challenges. She won the best student award in her high school and was awarded $2.5 million scholarships to study medicine.
Kyanna Woods is an African American student from Concord, North Carolina who was born with a heart defect that required her to undergo an open-heart surgery as an infant. After her surgery the doctor told her parents she would be having difficulties doing major things like walking, sports, and learning but Kyanna defied the odds and excelled both in her academics and sports.
Kyanna graduated as the best graduating student of Cabarrus Charter School in Concord, United States. She did not just graduate from high school only; she recently earned her associate’s degree too.
Kyanna received acceptance letters and scholarships worth of over 2.5million dollars from 61 colleges including Xavier University, the University of South Carolina, Spelman College, and Appalachian State University.

“At 3 months old, I had open heart surgery, many people have called me a miracle child. I accept it with open arms because it is the truth,” said Woods.
Kyanna credits her remarkable achievements to her unwavering faith and the support of her loving family who has always cheered her on.
“They are super important. I love all of them to death, they are my unwavering cheerleaders when I need the motivation,” Kyanna said.

Her parents, William and Kourtney woods also expressed how proud they are of their daughter, who is often called a miracle child.
“We were going to the mailbox quite regularly and we get piles of stuff from this school or that school,” William Woods said.
“It’s just a blessing to see what she can do and what she has done,’’ Kourtney added.
Kyanna said she will be choosing Xavier University of Louisiana, an Historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), where she will pursue her pre-med studies in psychology with the valedictorian scholarship.
“I have decided I will be attending Xavier University of Louisiana as a pre-med psychology student on the valedictorian scholarship,” she said.
