A 16-year-old homeless girl named Destyni Tyree graduated from Roosevelt S.T.A.Y. High School, United States within two years despite facing the challenges of homelessness during her academic study.
She received a full scholarship for her undergraduate studies at the university due to her outstanding performance.
Destyni graduated from Roosevelt S.T.A.Y. High School, United States with a 4.00 grade point two years earlier than the norm. She achieved success in the middle of survival and different challenges especially being homeless according to ABC News.
Destyni’s mother lost her job a couple of years ago, and the family struggled to support itself. They made the difficult decision of moving into a homeless shelter in Washington D.C which they shared with 243 other families.

“Accomplished, That’s how I feel right now. It’s OK. At first, I didn’t like it because I was used to my own space,” she said.
She mentioned that the stress of the environment affected her education and also her academic life, forcing her to pull out of various schools. “I had a lot of issues with classmates and teachers. It was just too much,” she said.
Destyni said it was not until she enrolled in Roosevelt S.T.A.Y. High School, an alternative program, that she felt motivated to succeed. The principal of the school, Eugenia Young described her as a Phenomenal student and a natural-born leader.
“The more and more she’s around people who constantly tell her how smart she is, and how she can do anything she puts her mind to, the more she believes she can do anything now,” Young said.
Destyni said she tirelessly managed her academic achievements, taking on heavy loads of classes, including on Saturdays, and working 25 hours a week at an ice cream parlor.
Even with the long day, she was involved in many school activities, launching the school’s first cheerleading team. Destyni also organized a senior trip to an amusement park which she asked her principal to host.
She was voted prom queen and was the captain of the cheerleading team. Despite all this, Destyni managed to graduate with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
She was awarded a full-ride scholarship to Potomac State College of West Virginia University in the United States. “I just time managed. I just wake up and do what I gotta do.
Destyni stated that her motivations for graduating early are grounded in her role as a big sister, noting that she wants her younger sister to have someone to look up to and added that she is ready to spread her wings.
Destyni said her goal is to one day give back to the community that helped raise her by becoming a school principal.
“It gets better, If you work hard enough, if you have that drive, if you have that motivation, it gets a lot better,” she said.
