An exceptional woman named Adaora Umeoji has been appointed as the Cheif Executive/General Managing director of Zenith Bank Nigeria after 30 years of working with the financial institution.
Adaora started her academic pursuits at the University of Jos, Nigeria where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology after which she proceeded to bag another degree in Accounting, and a First-Class Honours in Law from Baze University, Abuja Nigeria according to the Zenith Bank’s website.
She also holds a Master’s of Laws from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom, and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Adaora also earned a doctorate in Business administration from Apollos University, United States.
In addition to her academic achievements, Adaora is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) from Harvard Business School, a graduate of the Global Banking Program from Columbia Business School in the United States.

Adaora also attended the strategic thinking and management program at Wharton Business School, United States. She holds a Certificate in Economics for Business Massachusets Management Sloan School and a Certificate in Leading Global Businesses from Harvard Business School, United States.
Her banking journey started in 1994 before she later joined Zenith Bank four years later. Ever since then, Adaora has taken crucial roles that have contributed to the development of the bank and industry at large.
She has served as a Deputy Zonal Head, and Executive Director and also held the position of Executive Director for the Public Sector in different zones. Aside from her academic achievements, Adaora is a fellow of notable professional bodies.
Some of the bodies including the Chartered Bankers Institute of London, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, the Institute of Credit Administration, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Meditators & Conciliators, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators of Nigeria.
Adaora has also presented lead papers at major academic conferences and symposia. She was a keynote speaker at the Zenith Global Economic Forum in New York City where she delivered a lecture on Financing Growth Drivers in the Nigerian Economy.
Beyond banking, Adaora also supports research and learning on inspirational leadership, mentorship, talent development, collaboration, change and adaptability, strategic thinking, innovation, and creativity.
She uses her resources to promote the Pink Breath Cancer Care Foundation which supports several healthcare programs within the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
Adaora has won numerous awards for excellence and creativity in management and her contribution towards improving humanity has been recognized by various organizations including the Nigerian Red Cross.
She founded the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), a platform she uses to promote ethical banking and service to humanity. In 2022, the Federal Government of Nigeria honored her with Officer of the Order of the Niger (00N0, in recognition of her contributions to nation-building.
She is a Peace Advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC), and a Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI). She was recently awarded a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis.
Adaora’s appointment is a historic milestone for her and the Nigerian banking industry as she is the first female to hold the Chief executive position at Zenith Bank.
