A young Lady named Chioma Eze has bagged an Electrical Engineering degree with honors at Covenant University, Nigeria.
Chioma obtained her bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Covenant University, Ogun Nigeria with a second-class upper grade. Sharing her achievement with Edugist, she said she earned the degree with honors despite balancing her academics with leadership roles.
Talking about what motivated her to study Electrical Engineering, Chioma said she initially wanted to study Computer Science but her aunt whom she lived with did not approve it so she opted for Computer Enginering instaed.
However, her high school physics teacher who helped her pick courses while filling out the Covenant University Scholastic Aptitude Screening (CUSAS) form encouraged her to study electrical engineering instead as she thought the course was only for smart students.

”He counseled that I put Electrical and Electronics Engineering as my first choice and Computer Science as my second choice. I looked at him and asked him if he thought I was smart enough to study the course, he looked at me and told me I was smart enough to study anything I wanted to,” she said.
Chioma mentioned that she faced some challenges with some of her courses, especially in her second, third year, and fifth year but she was able to pull through with determination. Sh said she developed an interest in the course and was persistent and resilience with her reading approach.
She said she also had difficulties in one of her courses which had more Greek letters and expressions than actual English words. Chioma said the course was difficult to understand due to its heavy use of technical terms and abstract concepts.
Chioma said another significant challenge was balancing academics with leadership roles in extracurricular activities. She was a leader in her service unit and there were more demands on her than the average student.
She stated that most of her days in school were spent in class and at the chapel because she was also given the responsibility of managing people. Despite the difficulties, Chioma said she found fulfillment in helping others and believes these experiences contributed to her personal growth.
While a student, Chioma worked as an Electrical and Automation engineering intern at Guinness Nigeria Ltd under Diversey West Africa Ltd. She said the experience she gained during her internship sparked her interest in automation and machine learning.Â
Chioma said she is currently pursuing a career in Machine Learning and Automation Processes. She added that she is looking into dabbling in the world of machine learning in cybersecurity or finance because she has a keen interest in investing.
After graduation, Chioma said she plans to work for a little because she is burdened with the responsibility of handling her younger ones as both my parents are late before furthering her education. She said she looks forward to earning a master’s degree in Data Science and Machine learning.
