17-year-old boy wins aviation scholarship, graduates school as a licensed pilot

17-year-old, Williams Moore Jr. who won different aviation scholarships has now become a licensed pilot in the United States.

Williams Moore who is yet to graduate high school has received his license as a private pilot in the United States with better knowledge of flying using instruments and navigation aids.

Williams attended the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals Aerospace Career Education Academy located in Northern Virginia, United States for three years. The academy provides middle and high school youth with opportunities in aerospace and aviation through week-long summer camps.

He is the first to complete the program which is endorsed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and has been invited to participate with the incoming class of students where he will inspire his peers to achieve their dream of becoming a private pilot too.

Williams interviewed for a scholarship through the East Coast Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated (ECCTAI) Youth in Aviation Program (YIAP). He was accepted to attend the ground school which he completed graduating in the top 5% of his class.

With time, Williams flew at Potomac Airfield through Herbert Jones Aviation, LLC with most of his hours towards dual flight instruction covered by the East Coast Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated (ECCTAI) Youth in Aviation Program (YIAP).

He said he met an original Tuskegee Airman, Herbert H. Jones Jr., the man whom his flight school was named after made him very happy. Williams stated that Jones encouraged him to remain focused and stay on the path to aviation.

Williams was also selected and awarded a scholarship from Delta Air Lines to attend the National Flight Academy for a 2019 Summer Deployment 19-06. He said he learned so much and looks forward to attending again.

He started his first flight lessons in April 2019, completed his first solo in June same year, and received his private pilot’s license (PPL) on his birthday. William’s parents, mother, Kamesha Moore, and father William Moore, Sr. expressed how proud they are of their son, praising his resilient spirit.

“We are so proud of our son. He set goals, was determined to pass his FAA exam the first time, and also spoke into existence that he would achieve his PPL on his birthday,” they said.

Williams said he hopes to become a commercial airline pilot or a cargo pilot as well as serve his country as a military  pilot later in the future.
