British Council Research Fellowship Details:
In celebration of her 90th anniversary in 2024, the British Council Research Fellowship is offering a new research partnership with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh.
The British Council are awarding two 12-month fellowships starting in January 2025 – open to postdoctoral researchers based in any ODA (Official Development Assistance) recipient country where the British Council operates (see ‘Eligibility’ section below).
The fellowship is a three-year partnership. Over the coming years, additional rounds of fellowships – starting in January 2026 and January 2027 – will be awarded as part of the same programme.

Eligibility Requirements for British Council Research Fellowship 2024
To be considered for the British Council Research Fellowship 2024, you must:
- be qualified to undertake postdoctoral-level research for the fellowship.
- be within seven years of completion of your PhD.
- be based in an ODA recipient country in which the British Council operates.
- have a research that is aligned with the overarching vision of the British Council
Benefits and Duration of British Council Research Fellowship 2024
- The fellowship provides a bursary of £2,500 per month and travel expenses as well as desk space, library access and academic mentoring as part of the vibrant scholarly community of visiting fellows at IASH.
- The program is a 12-month fellowship, fellows will spend the first ten months of their fellowships at IASH, followed by up to two months based in their home countries
