Young Nigerian man bags masters degree with distinctions at US university, celebrates achievement

A brilliant Nigerian man named Folorunsho Toyin has bagged a masters degree with distinctions at the University of New Haven. in the United States.

Toyin obtained his master’s degree in Finance and Financial Analytics at the University of New Haven, United States. He took to Instagram to celebrate his success proudly reflecting on his journey from earning a second-class degree in Nigeria to achieving a master’s degree with distinctions.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Ecnimcs at Obafemi Awolowo University with a second class grade before he moved to the United States for his postgraduate studies.

Toyin shared on his Linkedin that his academic journey at University of New Haven was filled with challenges but along the way he met people who motivated him and gave him hope.

He mentioned that the first group of people he met at the university contributed to his success because they stuck together through it all. Toyin said the nights they spent studying together finally paid off, as he experienced the true meaning of academic excellence being one of the Top 20%.

Toyin said at the university he met individuals who deeply invested in his growth and development beyond the university. He said he met people who  offered more than just comfort but  provided great direction and also those who mentored him.

He stated that his professors represent a lighted candle as they not only shared their wealth of knowledge with them but also made significant contributions to humanity by investing in us through their teachings.

Toyin mentioned that graduate school extends beyond academics as it is where the entirety of one’s career path comes to life. He added that in graduate school one need a community of people with a shared vision and  those you can strongly identify with.

He said he  found such a community that made him a better person and a leader being a part of the African Graduate Students Association (AGSA). Toyin was also inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) community which represents a recognition of highly scholastic achievement. 

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can achieve in a program accredited by The Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) around the world.

Toyin said reflecting on his journey, he wants to encourage everyone not to  let today’s circumstances or temporary setbacks throw them off balance, shift them focus or deter them from achieving their goals and aspirations in life.

”No matter what, please don’t quit. Surround yourself with good people and rely solely on God, because in Him we move,” he said. He expressed his gratitude to his teachers and academic advisors stating that their profound understanding of teaching prepared him for the world.

Toyin said he is also thankful to his dean for his efforts, and leadership, and for always ensuring everyone in the business school is rightly positioned for the right opportunities. He said he is looking forward to continuing his pursuit of excellence and making meaningful contributions to the business community.
