A young African American girl named Crystal Lyons has made history as the first-ever black Valedictorian of Baconton Community Charter School in the United States.
Crystal graduated with the highest grade point and was the first ever black to be awarded the best-graduating student since the inception of Baconton Community Charter School in the United States.
She mentioned that she is excited about her achievement and she is still yet to believe it. “Realizing that I was the first African-American… it was just like wow,” Crystal said.
”You know I’m setting the milestone for not only students after me, but African-American students that not only attend Baconton but other predominantly white schools around the country,” she added.

Crystal said the success was not without challenges as she faced the hurdle of the Covid 19 Pandemic in the course of her study but she remained positive and motivated throughout.
“The pandemic was definitely hard going from at the end of my junior year going from totally in-person to virtual. The hardest part was staying positive and staying motivated and encouraged to do your best to continue school,” she said.
Crystal stated that she plans to attend North Carolina University where she will major in Political science. She added that she hopes the milestone will be the first stepping stone for others behind her.

“You have this pressure to be great and this pressure to do great things and to set the standard for people after you. So I was honored and I was thrilled. It’s a big title, it’s a big honor,” she said.
