An exceptional Nigerian woman named Ifeyinwa Ezeudu has overcome a discouraging remark from a family friend who doubted that she could achieve success as a girl child. Despite this, she fulfilled her dream and became both a Medical Doctor and Pharmacist.
Ifeyinwa who went on to also become a best student and set a record at her university took to Linkedin to narrate her story. She stated that when she was 14 years old, a family member asked what career she would like to practice in the future and she replied “Pharmacist and a medical doctor”.
However the relative discouraged her, saying such professions are not meant for the Nigerian girl child. ”At age 14,a family friend who came to visit us saw me studying my books and asked what I would want to be in future,” Ifeyinwa said.
”I said pharmacist and medical doctor . She screamed “are you not aware that you are a girl child?”Nne you can not achieve that as a Nigerian girl”I smiled and that was it!” she added.

Ifeyinwa said it was those downplaying words that challenged her and she promised herself to achieve her dream no matter the circumstances. She went on to put all her efforts into her education, earning three degrees on the path to fulfilling her dream.
She initially earned a Science Laboratory Technology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria after which she proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a Doctor of Medicine at Southwestern University, Philippines.
She mentioned that she obtained her bachelor’s degree with a 97% grade and was the best graduating student at the university. Ifeyinwa said she was not just a valedictorian but also the first international student to give the commencement speech in over 66 years of her school’s existence.
Ifeyinwa stated that she decided to further her education after earning a Pharmacy degree because she did not feel fulfilled. She said she was glad to earn a medical degree and achieved a lot of academic excellence awards in the process.
She has not only fulfilled her dream as a pharmacist and medical doctor, but she is also a certified laboratory technician.
Ifeyinwa stated that she is glad she did not follow the advice of her family friend who had doubts about her because she was a girl. She added that even though she had not reached her destination yet, she is proud of her current achievements.
Advising young girls, Ifeyinwa encourages them to be determined, work towards their dreams, and believe that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.
