Homeless Nigerian man who worked to pay his school fees finally graduates UK university, bags Engineering degree with first class

A brilliant Nigerian man named John Soneye has graduated from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom with a first-class degree in Engineering despite facing the challenges of being homeless and limited financial resources.

John obtained his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering with a first-class honors grade at University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. Narrating his story in a post on Pulse, he said he faced some difficulties on the path to achieving academic success.

”For those who know me well and have been through this journey with me, you know the blood, sweat and tears it took to arrive at this stage!” she said.

He stated that he moved from Greece to the United Kingdom at the age of 14 without his parents or family forcing him to be an independent teenager with no choice but to move from one family home to another,

John recounted how he had moved in with his 21-year-old brother when he was just 16 years old. Unfortunately, within a year of living together, they both found themselves jobless and homeless when John turned 17.

During this time, he was still in his college education. But he was able to persevere and pull through the challenges with the help of God and some of his friends whom he now considers as brothers.

He said because of everything that was going on during college, he did not achieve the grades necessary to be accepted into his desired degree program and had to instead enroll in a Foundation Year.

However, due to family problems and other issues, he had to drop out of his Foundation Year in r 2011. John said just like others who would lose focus while facing challenges, he was almost distracted but he remained determined.

”At this stage, most people would deviate from the correct path and I admit I was very close to getting caught up with the wrong crowd but I managed to stay FOCUSED,” he said.

John mentioned that he got a full-time job and was determined to go back to university the following academic year. He said he went back to start his Foundation Year and the following year, he gained admission to study Aerospace Systems Engineering.

Upon resumption, John said he promised himself and his family that he would be graduating with nothing less than a First Class Honours Degree and he achieved it with the stress of school in terms of coursework, exams, deadlines, projects, and dissertation.

”All graduates here can testify to how stressful university can be in terms of coursework, exams, deadlines, projects, and that DISSERTATION. By God’s Grace I have come out STRONG on the other end with a First Class Honours Degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering!” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to God, his parents, family, and friends for contributing to his success. He added that he is glad to have made his parents and friends proud of his achievement.

John said he believes that there are bigger opportunities waiting for him in the future adding that he is committed to maintaining his high level of motivation and eager to begin his career in Project Management, Consulting, and Engineering.
