A brilliant Nigerian-American lady named Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna who won the best student award at Elmont Memorial High School, United States has bagged a first-class Biomedical Engineering degree at Harvard University.
Augusta made history in 2017 when she was awarded overall best graduating student of Elmont Memorial High School with a 101.64 grade point average. Her brilliant performance earned her acceptance into 12 universities including the eight Ivy League Schools.
She was accepted into top universities in the United States like Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Augusta attributed her remarkable success to her parents for encouraging her and always pushing her to work hard towards achieving any of her goals.

“I owe it to my family for encouraging me and helping me realize I am limitless and have so many opportunities. They told me to dream big. They always wanted me to find my full potential,” she said.
Augusta was also among 40 teenagers in the United States who were named a finalist in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search for figuring out how to create a new and stronger cement seal for off-shore drilling oil wells by adding a clay ingredient in 2016.
After her high school graduation, she proceeded to Harvard University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. She graduated with a Summa Cum Laude grade.

She shared her achievement on her Twitter stating that she is excited to be the first Engineer in her family and one of the few black women engineers in the world.
”I graduated @Harvard with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and Language Citation in Igbo. Though delayed by the pandemic, I thank God for propelling me to become the 1st engineer of my family and join the small but mighty collective of Black women engineers,” she wrote on her Twitter.
While at Harvard, Augusta was part of student organizations such as the Harvard Society of Black Scientists and Engineers and the Harvard Nigerian Students Association.
She was also the Chief of Staff for Black Women In Science and Engineering (BWISE). She also joined the Havard Omo Naija, an Afrobeats dance group at the university.
Augusta is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Biomedical Engineering together with taking training as a medical scientist at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF), United States.
