A young Nigerian man named Umar Ibrahim Umar who proved his patriotism during his National Youth Service year has been rewarded for his action. He was awarded a full scholarship and employment.
Umar, an ex-National Youth Service Corps member, gained popularity at the parade ground in 2022 for leading the marching parade with great enthusiasm. A photo of him commanding the parade during his NYSC orientation camp went viral on social media.
Rumors circulated after that he had ventured into operating a POS (Point of Service) shop despite his dedication and patriotism. However, Umar vehemently denied them in 2022 and claimed he was trying his best to find his footing.
He recently stated in an interview with Legit that he is experiencing some financial challenges and would like to start a POS business. Umar shared that the interview garned support for him and a crowdfunding campaign started,

He said the successful crowdfunding campaign raised 352,000 naira to support his entrepreneurial endeavor. The campaign went viral quickly, attracting attention from various quarters, including a Nigerian former minister, Isa Pantami.
“We launched the fundraising campaign on 24th June, posted the story on all social media handles… and just within 24hrs, 80K was raised. It went to a total of 200K+ on the 2nd day,” Umar said.
And the 3rd day, 352K was the sum…. that was the day Prof. Isah Ali Pantami quoted the campaign on X App, asking me to contact him privately,” he added.
Umar mentioned that the minister, Prof. Isa Pantami not only supported his business idea but also offered him a job and mentorship to support his postgraduate education.
He stated that he was awarded a fully funded scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at any public university in Nigeria. Umar added that the former minister also gave him connections that would help him achieve his dream.
“2ndly, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship in any public university within Nigeria to forward my studies. And lastly, he linked me to the MD, Alliance Power Generation Company Ltd, to be trained on solar installations, maintenance, etc which will help me pursue my dreams in renewable energy, “ he said.
