Brilliant Nigerian lady bags first-class degrees in Medicine and Physiology within 8 years, wins best student award

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Omotoke Alaba bagged two degrees in Medicine and Physiology with a first-class grade within two years at Bowen University, Nigeria. She also won the overall best-graduating student award of her class.

Omotoke obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with distinction, and a Bachelor of Science in Physiology with first-class honors at Bowen University, Nigeria. 

She took to Twitter to celebrate her achievement of earning the degrees stating that she bagged the two bachelor’s degrees in 8 years and 11 months. Omotoke said she was also inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

”After 8 years and 11 months, I completed my medical school journey and got inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) as the Best Graduating Student of my set,” she said.

Her exceptional performance earned the overall best-graduating student award of Bowen’s University College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree with eight distinctions and was also the best student in 3 of her main courses.

Omotoke’s journey to medicine began in her childhood when her father playfully teased her with the name”small doctor.” She said this nickname, stuck with her, ignited her curiosity about the human body and over time, her fascination grew, shaping her passion for medicine.

Omotoke earned distinctions in Medical Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Medicine, Community Medicine,  Internal Medicine, and Surgery.

Reflecting on her experiences, Omotoke said she has always heard about the rigorous academic demands of medical school, but it was not until she experienced it firsthand that she truly understood the intensity.

Omotoke said the pressure was immense, but the friendships she made during these challenging times provided invaluable support to her. She said she is grateful that the friends were also inducted alongside herself.
