A brilliant Nigerian man named Samuel Osaretin Buraimoh who bagged a first class bachelors degree has earned the prestigious mastercard scholarship to study for his masters in Canada.
Samuel obtained his bachelors degree in Foid Science and Technology at the Federal University of Technology Akure Southwest Nigeria with a first-class honors. His achievement earned him the fully funded MasterCard foundation scholarships.
He shared his achievements on LinkedIn stating that he would be studying for his master’s degree in Food Science at the University of British Columbia in Canada with the scholarship.
The University Of British Columbia MasterCard Foundation Scholarship offers a master’s degree program to students from Sub-Saharan Africa. The Program provides access to education for academically talented, yet economically marginalized young people. For more information on how to apply, check HERE

Samuel said the achievement is the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and resilience. Samuel mentioned that the journey began in 2018, with a vision to pursue higher education at a world-renowned institution.Â
He said though his vision was clear, he still faced challenges including numerous rejections and setbacks. He said he applied to every fully funded scholarship he came across but he was rejected.
He said the rejection period was discouraging, heartbreaking, and doubtful for him. However, he did not give up rather he viewed the setback as a stepping stone. Samuel said he saw each rejection as an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger.Â
He stated that he poured his heart and soul into every application, pouring over feedback, refining his approach, and praying fervently. Fortunately, he was finally awarded the Mastercard scholarship in 2024.
Samuel said he is thankful to God for his love and grace. He also expressed his gratitude to his family, loved ones, friends, mentors, and colleagues who believed in him adding that their encouragement, guidance, and faith in his abilities kept him going, even in the darkest moments.
With the scholarship, he plans to assist individuals in scholarship pursuits, work closely with undergraduates and graduate students in winning scholarships, collaborate with peers and industry experts to develop practical solutions for food sustainability and share his knowledge and experience with communities and organizations to drive a positive impact.
Advising those facing rejection, uncertainty, or self-doubt, Samuel urges them not to lose faith in themselves and to keep pushing forward, even when the odds seem against them.Â
