A Nigerian monarch named Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has bagged a PhD in Law at the University of London in the United Kingdom.
Lamido Sanusi is the Emir(Ruler) of a Northern state in Nigeria who recently bagged a doctorate in Islamic Law at the University of London, in the United Kingdom after completing his Viva Voce.
Viva Voce, also known as an oral examination or thesis defence, is a crucial part of the PhD process in many academic institutions.
It is a formal assessment where a candidate presents and defends their research thesis in front of a panel of experts, usually comprising examiners and academics in the relevant field.

Sanusi’s achievement was shared in a video posted on the Mornach’s office Twitter. The video captures the monarch being congratulated during a virtual meeting with his examiners.
The Emir’s thesis, titled “Codification of Islamic Family Law as an Instrument of Social Reform with Focus on the Emirate of Kano and Comparison with the Kingdom of Morocco. His thesis was approved without any corrections.
Lanusi, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor began the Ph.D. program after being deposed as King in 2020, subsequently relocating to the United Kingdom to concentrate on his studies.

He was awarded a visiting fellowship at the African Studies Centre of the University of Oxford the same 2020. Sanusi also holds an honorary doctorate in finance from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London.
Sanusi bagged his first degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University in 1981 after which he earned a Master’s degree in Economics at the same university. He holds a second bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies and fiqh at the Africa International University in Khartoum, Sudan.
