18-year-old Emmanuel Tolue has been rewarded with a cash prize of 10,000 dollars and a full-ride scholarship to the university for returning a large amount of money that was misplaced.
Emannuel Tolue, a Liberian boy who works as a taxi driver was rewarded a scholarship for returning a misplaced money that was found on the road. According to Travel Noire, he dropped out of school to help run his family’s motorcycle taxi business in Monrovia, Liberia.
Ever since that time, Emmanuel has always wanted to go back to school. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do so due to his family’s financial situation and his sense of responsibility to assist. He said on a faithful day while driving the taxi, he found $50,000 US dollars on the side of the road.
Upon seeing it was a huge sum of money, he decided to take it home until the rightful owner could claim it. “I was afraid because it was plenty of money, and so I brought it home and gave it to my aunty to keep until the owner could ask for it,” he recalled.

Not long after, Emanuel said he heard a radio broadcast where someone was crying about losing that exact amount of money. He thereafter contacted the radio station, located the owner, and returned the money.
The President of Livingstone College, a Historically Black College and University in North Carolina, Jimmy Jinkens contacted Emmanuel after learning about his exemplary honesty and good deeds, which prompted him to reward him.
Jimmy Jinkens said he heard about the boy from the Liberia Organisation. The university funds two Liberian students’ tuition every four years which made them offer Emmanuel a full scholarship to the university.

Emanuel said he received the offer as he has always wished to further his education. He also received 1,500 dollars from the original owner of the money for returning it, an order of Distinction from the Liberian President, George Weah, and a 10,000 US dollar reward together with two motorbikes.
Emmanuel said he hopes his story can be an example to others always to do the right thing. He added that he hopes that the university will encourage other Liberian youth to go to school instead of getting into the motorcycle taxi business.
