A young African woman named Jabir Ibrahim who bagged 2 bachelor’s degrees has been awarded the prestigious United Kingdom Chevening Scholarship.
Jabir, from Nairobi bagged a Bachelor of Law in Climate Law and Energy Policy and Bachelor of Science degree in Environment Conservation and Natural Resource Management at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
He was awarded the Chevening Awards to study for his masters degree at the University of Sussexx in the United Kingdom. Jabir shared the achievement on his Linkedin thanking the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Chevening Awards Secretariat & the British High Commission in Nairobi.
He mentioned that he was chosen among the 70,000 individuals that applied. Chevening Scholarships are the United Kingdom government’s global scholarship program, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations.

The Chevening Scholarship Awards are designed to cover the full cost of studying for a Master’s degree in the UK, including any additional – accommodation, visa, and travel – expenses you may incur as an international student. For more information on how to apply, check HERE.
Jabir said with the scholarship, he will be studying for his master’s degree in Energy and Climate Policy at the University of Sussex, ranked first in the world for development studies.Â
He said as climate and development are deeply interconnected, a solar project is more than just a tool for reducing emissions. its access to clean electricity, unlocking a range of benefits for communities, boosting economic growth, improving health, and enhancing education
Jabir said he is thankful to the High-Level Climate Champions, all former Champions, and the 2 current United Nations Climate Change High-Level Champions for the opportunity to represent their respective visions for Africa.
He said the Africa team has collaborated with non-state partners to achieve significant progress in various areas which includes expanding access to renewable electricity and clean cooking, promoting responsible green hydrogen development, and advancing sustainable mining practices across the continent.
Jabir stated that although he may not be active in the High-Level Climate Champions, he would continue to support critical agendas in a light-touch capacity.
He expressed his gratitude to individuals who were kind enough to write his recommendation letters for his application and their support and guidance throughout his career. Moving on, Jabir said he is hopeful and enthusiastic about what lies ahead.
