A 28-year-old African Lady named Patricia Kingori has set an outstanding record as the youngest Black woman to be promoted to the rank of a full professor at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
Patricia Kingori is a Kenyan woman who was awarded a full professorship at the University of Oxford, making her the youngest Black woman to receive tenure so far in the institution’s history.
Patricia obtained her bachelors degree in Sociology at Royal Holloway, University of London. After graduating she worked as a research assistant in the University of London focusing her doctoral research on the ethical challenges experienced by frontline workers.
Though she initially struggled with securing funding, she was later was awarded a Wellcome Doctoral Studentship and began her PhD at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Patricia was appointed at the Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities at Oxford in recognition of the quality and global impact of her research on academia and beyond.
The university stated, according to Quartz Africa. that she made several achievements throughout the period of 8 years she was at the university. She acquired competitive funding grants, wrote outstanding publications, supervised several DPhil candidates, and taught hundreds of students.
Patricia faced some challenges along the way, She had just given birth to her first child when she received a Wellcome Doctoral Studentship to fund her Ph.D. She had to file for maternity leave for a year before relocating to Kenya with her family to do fieldwork.

Patricia was able to return after 10 months to finalize her data collection with the help of 2 new supervisors. She eventually completed her Ph.D. and went on to do postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford’s Ethox Centre as a Wellcome Research Fellowship.
Patricia went from being a research lecturer to an associate professor in just 5 years with hard work, determination, implacable good humor, and brilliance according to the principal baroness at Oxford’s Somerville College.
