42-year-old Nigerian-American woman becomes Law professor at Harvard university, sets outstanding record

A 42-year-old Nigerian-American woman named Dehlia Umunna has set an outstanding record as the first Nigerian to be promoted to the rank of a Law professor at Harvard University.

Dehlia Umunna is a Nigerian-born woman who relocated to the United States to further her studies after high school. She bagged her bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University in the country.

Dehlia also holds a master’s degree from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Public Administration before moving on to obtain another degree in Law from George Washington University Law Center, United States.

After graduating from law school, Dehlia joined the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she represented hundreds of underprivileged juveniles and adults.

She also worked as an Adjunct Professor of Law and Practitioner in Residence at American University and Washington College of Law where she taught and supervised students in the Civil Clinic.

Dehlia joined the Harvard Law School as a staff in 2007 working as a Clinical Instructor at the school’s Criminal Justice Institute (CJI). In 2015, she was appointed as a Law professor at the institution.

Talking about her appointment, Dehlia said she is happy to be given the chance to pursue her genuine passions. She also expressed her gratitude for the school’s profound dedication to matters concerning criminal justice, mass incarceration, indigent defense, and social justice.
