Hannah was able to bag a degree and graduate high school at the same time through North Carolina’s Career and College Promise Program (CCP). This program offers free education, making it really affordable for students like her.
”Starting high school, I actually had this goal, that before I graduated high school, I wanted to graduate with at least 60 college credits, so just knowing how much it would push me further in life, how much it could advance me, that’s what made me want to take those college classes,” she explained.
The Career and college promise initiative allows high school students in Robeson County to earn college credits for free at Robeson Community College. With this program, she managed to pile up an impressive 60 college credits.
“I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. It doesn’t matter how well the next person does it. The only thing that matters is you and your drive,” she said.
Hannah’s mother Miranda McNair, who has been a teacher at Fairmont High School for 28 years stated that she is proud of how far her daughter has achieved her goals.
“She is self-driven. Even into foreign languages. She says oh, I want to learn a new language, so she’ll learn Korean, learn Spanish, and learn Portuguese,” Miranda said.
Hannah mentioned that she already has a game plan in place for when she graduates from the University of North Carolina.“I’m really looking at teaching kindergarten or first grade, and if not those two age groups, then I’m looking at fifth-grade math,” she said.
Advising high school students, Hannah told them to persist without ceasing, encouraging them to chase their dreams with maximum determination. She added that they should remain focused and always have a positive mindset toward achieving their goal.
“I would say to never give up, continue to chase your dreams as long as you do the best you can do, nothing else matters,” Hannah said. ”If you have a goal, set your goal and go for it, because you can do it, you can do anything that you put your mind to,” she added.
