Study In Liechtenstein: Cost of Living, Tuition & List Of Universities

Liechtenstein is a gem of a country. Almost as if you can put it in your pocket because if its small size. But don’t let the size deceive you. It ticks several of the right boxes of good study abroad destinations.

The country of just about 40,000 people is the fourth smallest country in Europe and is bordered to the east and north by Austria while Switzerland occupies the western, northern, and southern bothers.

The German-speaking country is completely located on the Alps. This makes it a good destination for students interested in winter sports.

The capital of the country is Vaduz, and along with Blazers in the south, and Nendein in the north, are the three main cities of the country.

Occupying an area of just 160 Km², the country has one of the highest standards of living in the world, some of the best financial institutions in the world and one of the lowest unemployment rate in the world.

Added to all that, the country’s crime rate is almost non-existent. The biggest reason to arrest somebody is more likely to be for being drunk and disorderly after a weekend party.

Cost of living in Liechtenstein

The cost of living in this country is on the high side. This is mostly due to the high salaries paid to workers here and the attendant impact on the price on goods and services.

As a very small country, the price differential between the capital and other parts of the country is not too high. In effect, the cost of living is not too dependent on location or closeness to the city center.

The average rent per month for a decent apartment of one room is a little under 800 Swiss francs.

International students coming to Liechtenstein can take advantage of the halls of residence provided by most universities. Apart from the lower cost, it would aid the student settle down quickly, make new friends among students easily and get help too.

Tuition fees to Study In Liechtenstein

Tuition fees in Liechtenstein depends on the course of study, number of years and the University. Generally though, students coming from abroad should not pay more than €1,200/month.

Visa and immigration issues

Though not a member of the EU, the country does have agreements in place with EU countries to make it possible to travel there without a visa. However, EU students would need to obtain a residency permit to be able to study in Liechtenstein.

Non-European students on the other hand would need to apply for a student visa. Before you apply for a student visa the following must be in place

  • You have already secured admission
  • You must not be in possession of ether a tourist or a business visa and you must not be in the country at the time of applying for the visa
