Apparently, there are admission deadlines for different admission options.

The Winter term application deadline is October 1. February 1 is the deadline for the fall term application. November 15 is the Early action deadline for first-year students only. Similarly, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance students deadline is December 1st.

First-year students will complete either the Common Application or Coalition application and submit before the deadline. There is no advantage of one type of application over the other.

Updated Requirements for 2020/2021 Academic session

There are slight differences particular to the 2020/2021 academic session. They include the following:

The application deadline is November 15, 2020 for early action. Admission will be given by the end of January 2021. Students who didn’t meet the November deadline can apply for the regular action which will have a deadline of February 1, 2021.

  • Transcript: Students will not be disadvantaged because of grades.
  • Recommendations can be given by other people other than a teacher. This may be a community-based educator or academic support program professional.
  • Standardized tests: Students will be considered regardless of their ability to provide the test scores. However, international students who cannot provide the test can submit any external/national exam. SAT or ACT scores can be self-reported in the student’s application.

Rackham Graduate School Admission Requirements

The graduate school at the University of Michigan is the Rackham Graduate School. Its general admission requirements are:

Non-Degree and Guest Application Admission Requirements

You can apply to the University of Michigan for a term.

This is applicable to candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree but wish to take a course at U-M. They are not seeking another undergraduate degree.

If you would like to take courses during the fall or winter terms, fill out the Non-Degree Application.

To be admitted as a Non-Degree student, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Have enrolled in another institution for two to three semesters
  • Have allowed at least one full term (excluding spring/summer) to elapse before the term of enrollment as a Non-Degree
  • If you’re a seeking student, state the situation clearly, and provide supporting documents from your class advisor and permission.
  • You are currently at the upper-division level, in good standing, and eligible to return to your home institution.
  • You have attained the upper-division level at a private college, are in good standing, and eligible to return to your home.
  • Participating in a special program (such as study abroad) and have official approval
  •  Dual Enrollment: You are a high school senior, have completed college prep courses scored a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. Fill out the Dual Enrollment application instead

If it is during the spring and summer terms, complete the Guest Application. Submit transcript and English language proficiency.

Applicants who are F-1 or J-1 visa holders must submit an official transcript. In addition, a completed Financial Resources Statement and supporting documents are required. Similarly, students already in the U.S. on F-1 or J-1 status must also submit a photocopy of the current I-20 or DS-2019 and I-94 card.
